Pogo - Children's Shoes With Style

About us

Pogo is a new concept in children's shoe shopping.

Based in Tavistock and owned by me, Jo Dixon!  I am a mum of 2 who was frustrated by the local options for buying children shoes.  I understand the need for quality shoes and professional fitting, so i decided to retrain after a career in charitable management and fill the gap!

Pogo offers professional measuring and fitting for childrens feet at a range of venues in and around Tavistock in Devon, where we 'pop up' with a wide range of children's shoes with choice of sizes and styles.

As parents we understand the hassle that shopping with children for new shoes can be, particularly when under pressure to buy new school shoes at the peak times!

The Pogo concept is to offer a calm and bespoke service by appointment or a Pogo Shoe Party in your own home or toddler group.

Trained shoe fitters, undertake a 5 month course covering foot development, shoe manufacture and retailing as well as the detailed art of fitting the right shoe to the childs foot.

Customers may rest assured that the shoes they are buying from Pogo for their children are the best fit possible.

Pogo stock more than 15 quality uk and continental brands including  Primigi, Umi, Pediped, Daisy Roots, BMS, Noel, Ricosta, Petasil  in sizes from 0-41.

We promote excellent foot health for children through the service. There is no doubt that from birth to early teens, feet are at their most vulnerable. There are 26 bones in the foot and they do not completely harden until the age of 18.

An infant needs their first shoes when they are walking for most of the day, on their own, inside the house and wants to walk outside. At this stage they need shoes to protect their feet. This can be between 7 months and 2 years. Never push a child to walk before they are ready.

Choose shoes, with the help of a qualified shoefitter,  that are designed around the shape of your child's foot (slim at the heel and wider at the front).

Choose footwear made from natural materials (i.e. leather, cotton canvas) as these will allow your child's feet to breathe. Man-made materials e.g. plastic, PVC make feet perspire and can cause fungal infections and abrasions.

Children's feet should be checked for correct fit every 4-6 weeks for infants (0-3 years), 6-8 weeks (3-4 years) and 10-12 weeks thereafter. That is not to say that your child will need new shoes each time their feet are measured - a qualified shoefitter will not sell you shoes if they are not needed, and will be happy to measure and advise accordingly.

Children's feet grow erratically in fits and starts. Walk out of any shop that asks you the size of your child's foot and then takes your word for it without checking.

Never hand shoes down, they take on the shape of the previous wearer-they will rub and not support in vital areas and can harbour infections.

If you have any concerns about your child's feet, always seek professional advice from your GP or Podiatrist; and for shoe related queries, from Pogo direct.

Pogo believe children's feet should be measured and fitted professionally for new shoes, which is why we are reluctant to sell the full range of shoes online - we will sell our bespoke slippers, wellies and synthetic shoes by mail order - please contact us to place an order.
